Hilton is extending the reach of its esteemed loyalty program, HHonors®, with the opening of Canopy Reykjavik. The new property will be called “Canopy Reykjavik | City Centre,” and it is currently under construction in Iceland’s capital city. The brand sees Reykjavik as the perfect location to offer destination travelers an ideal customer experience.
“In creating Canopy by Hilton, we focused heavily on customer research at every stage, and the result is a brand which redefines the lifestyle segment, and brings guests closer to the destinations and communities in which they travel,” said Gary Steffen, Global Head of Canopy by Hilton. “Reykjavik is unlike any other city on Earth, and its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty align with the ethos of Canopy by Hilton. It is with considerable excitement that we anticipate the opening of Canopy Reykjavik | City Centre in 2016.”
Canopy, Hilton’s new lifestyle hotel brand, plans to increase customer engagement by developing properties that fit into the environments they inhabit. Designed as a “natural extension” of its surrounding neighborhood complete with local food, beverages, and various amenities, Canopy Reykjavik | City Centre will give guests a fresh and exciting customer experience, while also offering all the high quality services that Hilton is known for, including it’s loyalty program benefits.
HHonors is currently the only loyalty program to allow members to collect and earn points at over 4,000 hotels around the world with no blackout dates. Canopy Reykjavik will now also be included in that group. In addition to earning points for free rooms, many guests that reserve rooms directly through Canopy’s website will also be eligible for free Wi Fi, digital check-in, and they will be able to control room selection.
The dedication of the new hotel is also expected to benefit the tourism levels across the Icelandic city. Even though Hilton owns the Canopy brand, Canopy Reykjavik | City Centre will be operated by Icelandair Hotels, which has maintained a longtime commitment to increase the customer engagement of the tourism industry.
“Reykjavik has an incredible energy and is a fitting setting in which to introduce our first Canopy by Hilton hotel,” said Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President of Development, in Europe & Africa for Hilton Worldwide. “Iceland has grown in stature as a destination, owing to the efforts of Icelandair, which has improved the country’s connectivity and visibility as a global destination. Visitor numbers to Iceland have more than tripled in the last 15 years, and Canopy Reykjavik | City Centre will add fresh momentum to the city’s vibrant travel scene.”
